Kudos to the Tips for grinding out a huge victory on the road against Spokane. Leland Irving may have played his finest game of the year, and he well deserved the number one star. Mike Alexander was a force to be reckoned with in a great defensive effort. Unfortunately the boys spent considerable time in the penalty box, which put enormous pressure on Irving, but he managed to survive 39 out of 40 shots, more than a few of which were from point blank range.
Unfortunately the game ended on an ugly note, as clearly the Chiefs were frustrated with the loss. It seems that Spokane has wrestled the thug tiara from previous owner Tri-City. Per http://www.whl.ca/, one can find numerous Chiefs' players on the list of suspensions. One up and coming thug in particular, Spokane's captain, Chris Bruton, was just recently suspended for 3 games in a brawl against Tri-City on 1/5. It seems Bruton (being the manly man that he is) likes to check from behind and throw sucker punches. Other aspiring Spokane thugs include Dustin Donaghy, Jared Spurgeon, Mitch Wahl and two-timer Curtis Kelner. It's anticipated that Bruton will again be further penalized for his latest cheap shot, this time against Kyle Beach.
Suffice it to say, Saturday's grudge match should be one of high energy and intensity. The best way to put Spokane it its place is for Everett to beat them straight up. But first let's thrash Leo's beloved Portland.
Go Tips!

I really believe that Leland played a career game! He turned away shot after shot from point blank range, great game.
