Portland Loses in Everett

It's nice to get a win at home any time of the season, but especially when you are just about to go on the long Christmas break. That's just what happened tonight as the Tips defeated the hated Portland Winterhawks 4 to 3.

I don't think anyone would call it the Tip's best game. There were big stretches where Portland outplayed us and we got a goal with less than three minutes to play to win the game, but we were also without Hamill (suspension from Tri Cities game) and Beach (concussion) so take that into account.

And now, I'm proud to present, for the first time ever, an exclusive benefit to all GoTips.blogspot.com readers...HockeyTom's Three Stars of the Game! I know you've been waiting your entire life to know what I think about individual efforts and, well, now you'll get a chance to find out:

#3: Gendur - I saw the game from Gendur that I've wanted to see for the past few weeks. He passed effectively, pulled the trigger to shoot, and created space for his linemates to make plays. He was a leader.

#2: Karamnov - This was a tough call as Vitaly has REALLY started playing well and I almost think he deserved the first star. We saw something in him early in the season and it's really developing now. He's a first liner next year.

#1: Burt - Wow. Just wow. All over the ice, finishing checks, and making plays happen. You couldn't have asked for a better game from the kid and he has really played with passion for the past few weeks. He ALWAYS skates hard.

I look forward to reading Leo's take on the game after he awakes from sushi and beer-induced slumber.
