Trade Deadline Thoughts and Ramblings...

The Everett Herald talked today about what the Tips might do at the trade deadline...I think Dan Gendur had it right when he said "I think we have a team that can do some damage."

The Tips ARE a great team and have tremendous potential, if only someone (cough, Becanic, cough cough) could unleash it. We've got weapons (Gendur, Beach, Hamill, Karamnov), defense (Crowley, Harty, Ellington), goaltending (Irving, Barrie), and the rowdiest, loudest arena in the WHL. What more do we need?

I've learned a long time ago not to make predictions before trade deadlines. I can't possibly know about all the talent in the WHL and who we might trade to get a sweet deal (and let's be honest, Soetaert has been an awesome GM. He has an eye for a great deal that would make a used car salesman jealous...

Plus, the Tips are starting to display that potential. I think Becanic has FINALLY settled on some line combinations that give us some legitimate threats in multiple areas, and the guys are starting to gel. You saw SilvertipChica's posts...we've won some key, gritty games. (Okay, winning against Leo's BFF Portland Winterhawks isn't saying much, but let's start somewhere.)

But I will say I wouldn't mind if we trade Graham Potuer, or as Leo has called him "Graham Cracker." He is a sloppy defender who skates like he's moving through cement. He takes penalties because he is often caught out of position. He never challenges skaters (his poke check is wanting) choosing instead to block passing lanes (not very effectively). And his one selling point, his physical play, isn't really that physical game in and game out.

I also wouldn't mind if we traded Becanic at the deadline. Is that possible?

i agree w/hockeytom that soetaert has thus far been brilliant in recruiting talent. one can only hope this continues. it has to be hard on the players though, waiting out the deadline. i will feel badly for any player dealt, especially to a lesser team. really, who wouldn't want to play for a class organization in a fantastic arena with the biggest fan base (game in and game out)in the whl! for most of these kids, this is as close as they'll ever come to playing in the 'bigs', and it must be like a dream come true to do so as a tips player.

if there aren't any mid-season changes, i still think it's very possible for this team to secure a playoff berth and do some exciting things (not 'exciting' as in the final home game in last year's playoffs against prince george; i still have nightmares..)
