Tips Ready for 2008?

The Tips finished 2008 playing the kind of hockey every fan wished they were playing since the start of the season. We had a great power play and consistent control of the puck in the other team's zone for most of the last two games.

I mentioned it on the 1380AM Post Game Call-in Show, but the guys were out there killing themselves to get at the puck. That's the kind of effort where the puck is going to bounce your way (for example, the bounce that set Dan Gendur off on a short-handed breakaway for his hat trick goal!).

We've said all-season long that the Tips have plenty of talent (including kids like Karamnov who are starting to shine) and it's only the game plan/motivation that seem to be lacking. Hopefully, Becanic has finally figured that out and we'll start to see the kind of consistent play this team is capable of delivering.

Speaking of Becanic, I've been hard on him lately. It's the new year, so I guess I should make a resolution to be a nicer, more understanding fan in 2008. A kindler, gentler Tips fan...

Well, you can forget it. Becanic deserved every bit of what I and every other fan gave him! If we start winning, I'll ease up. Until then, he's just a placeholder keeping the seat warm for the next Silvertips Head Coach...perhaps Leo should put in an application?

Leo? Coaching? So many things wrong with that:

1) Can't drink beer on the bench
2) He went to a Winterhawk game instead of a Tips game
3) His "Barry Manilow" wardrobe would embarrass section 119.
