Herald on Tip's First Half

Now the Everett Herald has weighed in on the Tip’s first half season performance. As you can guess, the word “inconsistent” appears several times in the article. What a surprise.

Most of what’s been said has been rehashed on this blog and elsewhere, so I won’t repeat the things you already know. But, there was one comment that I think stands out as particularly foolish.

I’ll give you two guesses as to who said this, but you’ll only need one:

Defensively there's not a lot I would change," Becanic said. "Offensively our ability to forecheck aggressively for 60 minutes is something that's made us difficult to play against every night. The more time we spend in the offensive zone, the less we have to defend. That's something I'll continue to push. And we've developed our offensive game. I see that and our staff sees that, but maybe the public doesn't see that. We just have to continue to be patient with it and not panic."
I’m sorry, but defense is something that needs a wholesale change. Leland can’t get into a rythymn because he’s in the middle of a shooting gallery or the puck is being moved behind his net all night long. I couldn’t disagree more with this comment.

But I’ll give Becanic credit, the forecheck has been good most nights (and great on a few) especially due to the inspired play of a few guys forcing turnovers and keeping the puck deep during line changes.

Check out the article. Comment if you have any thoughts.
